FC Barcelona announced earlier that Mateu Alemany, the sporting director, will leave his position on June 30 to occupy the same position in a new club, the English Aston Villa, according to British press reports.
And according to the official statement published by the club after the victory over Osasuna in La Liga last week, Mateu Alemany will fulfill all his obligations to Barcelona and pledge to complete all pending deals before June 30.
And Sport newspaper said that the sports director promised to complete a specific deal before his departure, which is the deal to renew Ousman Dembele’s contract, which he had already started working on a few days ago.
Barcelona’s sports administration met a few days ago with Dembele’s agent to make the first contact. There it became clear that the Blaugrana club considered the French player strategic, and his environment confirmed that he wanted to continue in Barcelona for many years. The feeling has changed and now a formula must be found so that everyone feels comfortable.
Barcelona are very strict about the salary cap but there is likely to be an improvement in the contract over the next few years, a gesture by which the club wants to reward Dembele for his fine performances.
Mateu Alemany is thinking of a short contract, one or two more years. And the termination clause will remain low if at any time the player feels they must start a new adventure elsewhere.
The odds are good and Barcelona expect everything to be more or less ready before June 30th. The idea is that Dembele, for the club’s peace of mind and comfort, will not enter the final year of his contract (2024) without renewing it, as happened last time.
Indeed, despite rumors that clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern want him, Dembele is happy at Barcelona and continues to bet on the club, so his absolute priority is renewal. His relationship with Xavi Hernandez is excellent and his performances have been more consistent.
In the locker room, he’s also gained weight and up as the differential player that he is. Xavi considers him an absolute priority for his new project as the undisputed starting point on the right wing.
